四推御史唐制，御史台推按时，分京城诸司及诸州为东、西两部分，取侍御史二人知东、西推，殿中侍御史二人同知东、西推，谓之四推御史。单日于台院（侍御史所居处）受事，双日于殿院（殿中侍御史所居处）受事。元和八年（813），罢东西推及分日受事之限，四推御史轮流受事。五代仍之。
